Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

I practice Psychotherapy and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy which is an extremely well supported type of therapy that combines modern psychotherapy with hypnosis.

 

The psychotherapy work is based on Solution Focused Brief Therapy, incorporating some aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). I've detailed below what you can expect from your sessions.

Combining Psychotherapy with Hypnotherapy in our sessions really gets excellent results quickly. Working on the talking therapy on the first half of the session and then doing hypnosis during the second half allows your brain the space to process what we've talked about and find the answers to help you feel better resulting in a much happier you!

In a Lavender Field

At the first session - the initial consultation, we talk over how you're feeling and what you would like to work on and achieve during our sessions. I then explain (with some drawing on my part) what goes on in your body when you experience what you're experiencing and best of all, how we can help you to not feel like that any more. I give you an audio to listen to at night which is a guided relaxation and it helps your mind focus on some thing other than the thoughts whirling around in your head and helps you to fall asleep, calmly and peacefully. You can listen to this at any time of day or night to help calm you - as long as you're not driving! Listening to 20 minutes of clinical hypnosis is the equivalent to four hours sleep! Basically we're giving your brain a chance to do what it does during your REM sleep at night, which is to process everything that happens in your life. When we have good REM sleep, we cope easier with what happens in our lives.

Hypnosis is nothing magical and nothing like you see on stage or on the television. There will be no swinging pendulums, and I won’t be making you dance like a chicken! Hypnosis is a relaxed and focused state which is like a guided daydream. In this state the mind and body are calm and relaxed. You are completely in control and if you wanted to come out of it you could at any time. This is very beneficial as it allows us to calm overactive minds, settle disturbed emotions, and release tensions which build up in the body. In this relaxed state our brains are able to process the events of our lives and make beneficial changes. This will make it easier for you to move forward with your life and you may find that the whole process feels very effortless.

After the initial consultation, the next time I see you we will have a normal session which starts by us talking about what's going on in your life. I will help you by breaking down any issues that you would like to and help you understand what's going on and why you are struggling. Best of all, we can look at how to help move you forward. We all struggle some times and it's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. 

We will work through what's working in your life and what you're happy with, and what isn't going well we can look at how we can move it to a place where you are happier with it. The session is about you and we are all different. What matters to you will be completely different to some one else and it's important that you feel that your feelings are valid and important. Our focus is about making you the best version of yourself and your session will be tailored to you and your needs. You can share as much or as little as you want to and our communication is always in the strictest of confidence so you can be assured that you are safe to share if that's some thing you want to do. If you choose not to, we will work directly on the issue you come to me with and we will look at improving that week by week.

After we have spent some time talking, we do some hypnosis. This is where you get yourself comfy and lay down and close your eyes and I just talk to you, taking you through some guided relaxation that will feel effortless and relaxing for you. This relaxation will be tailored to you and your needs, just like the rest of the session. The amazing thing about this is that although it feels so effortless for you, your brain will be figuring out ways to put into practice the things we have spoken about. Giving your brain that space allows you to empty some things out of your stress bucket and move forward more positively.

How often I see you and how many times is completely up to you. You may want one session or several. I usually see clients once a week for between 8 and 12 weeks. I offer a package of 6 sessions for the price of 5 which you may find helpful or you can pay as you go, it's entirely up to you. Your initial consultation is FREE.
